Environmental Statement

M L Hart Builders Ltd operates in London and throughout Essex.  We provide new homes in many market sectors including social housing for rent and shared ownership.

As a company, we are aware of our responsibility to assess and minimise the impact of our business operations on the environment. We welcome and commit to uphold all legal and other requirements in all of our activities.  We strive for continuous improvement in a framework that is both professional and ethical while staying aware of our social and environmental responsibilities.

Our policy intends to promote and achieve protection and enhancement of the natural environment while improving and maintaining the build environment.  This is illustrated in the land we use for development.  A great deal of the land developed by our company has had a prior use and much of it comes from reclaimed, former derelict land.  This reduces the need for new infrastructure and helps to improve the quality of life and environment of local communities.

We are committed to the monitoring our environmental performance and have established the following objectives.

  • Minimise waste
  • Highlight any environmental issues at the earliest possible stage in order that appropriate solutions are devised.
  • Ensure our suppliers take care in the selection of materials and products through regard for their environmental performance.
  • Ensure employees have an understanding of how to minimise the effect of their work on the environment.
  • Ensure that our building designs meet efficient standards for energy and water use.
  • Commit to the CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES minimum of level 3 on all of our projects.

To reduce the consumption of materials where possible and to extend the life of materials where practicable.

To recycle or re-use materials where possible and to dispose of waste in the least environmentally damaging way.

To ensure that all staff and subcontractors are aware of environmental issues and to provide a range of courses and training in relevant topics.

To ensure that all staff and subcontractors are aware of the environmental impacts of transport and to encourage the use of alternative forms of transport.

To monitor progress on a regular basis to identify areas for improvement.

In order to implement this policy the company will allocate responsibilities and resources as appropriate.  The policy is communicated to all staff and subcontractors and is available to all interested parties.
